Length of a One-Dimensional Line – Example 4

Looking at an example of finding the length of a One-Dimensional Line, take AB on the following number line.

The first step is to identify both the coordinates of Point A, which is 4 and Point B, which is 6.

To find the length of  AB we can use the following equation:

Plugging the coordinate of Point B in for x2, and the coordinate of Point A in for x1. We get the following situation.

Simplifying the equation finds us the length of  AB.
